Ahh.. get rid of unwanted hair. It's so interesting how much one thing leads to another. The other day, I've mustered enough courage to talk to my wife about trying laser hair removal. She then told me I can remove unwanted hair in other ways other than going for procedures. No harm trying the other less expensive and easier alternatives first, she said. In the case of my unwanted body hair on the chest, she was suggesting that I try waxing.
I guess women knows much better when it comes to ways to remove unwanted hair. Think about all the different products that we see today, they seem to cater to the varying needs of women for beauty. My wife is pretty conscious about how she looks so I guess I should give her suggestion a try. After talking to her for about 2 hours, here's what I found out on the more common methods to get rid of unwanted hair :
(1) Shaving
This is by far, the easiest and perhaps also the fastest way to get rid of unwanted hair. For large surfaces like my chest, I can get it done in just 5 minutes. But there are a lot of issues with this method. For example, shaving cuts the hair off the surface of the skin and not removing it by its roots. Hair follicles can quickly grow back and you need to continuously shave to maintain it. There's also a risk of stubby surfaces and ingrown hairs. Hmm... not a very good solution, my wife said. And most importantly, she doesn't want to lie on my stubby chest! Ha ha!
(2) Plucking
I think my wife's crazy to have suggest this in the first place. Can you imagine plucking my chest hair one by one? It'll take ages! And think of the pain I've to go through. "But as you keep on plucking, you'll slowly build up a tolerance for the pain!" she argued. Yeah right! I've a pretty low pain threshold so this method of removing unwanted hair is definitely out for me.
(3) Depilatory Gels
This is one interesting approach. Depilatory gels basically are chemicals that gently "melts" the hair near the roots and even though it can be slightly irritating on our skin, it's quite effective and lasts pretty long as well. However, if you've rather sensitive skin, this may not be the best for you as the chemicals might cause an adverse reaction such as a rash for a few days after the application. But how do you know if you're sensitive to the gel? My wife told me it's important to test out the gels on the back of your wrist and leave it for a few hours or so to ensure it's ok before even using it to remove unwanted hair. Hmm... I may just consider this. After all, depilatory gels aren't really that expensive.
(4) Waxing
Heard of brailizan wax? Yeah, waxing - my wife says - is another awesome method for removing unsightly hair. It's longer lasting than plucking, shaving but like depilatory gels, they can be pretty irritating to the skin. And not to mention the pain! The waxing specialist will apply a layer of warm wax over the area where hair is to be removed and once it's dried, she rip the entire wax layer off your body! Yikes, painful isn't it? It's more costly than the other methods too but is cleaner and lasts the longest amongst all methods discussed here.
Hmm... I'll probably give it a thought which method I'll use to get rid of unwanted hair on my chest.
